PDF Preflight Summary

An overview of Good2Go Default PDF settings. 

Following are the default preflight settings used in Good2Go on PDF’s smaller than 500Mbs. Conditions checked in PDFs are designed to highlight known issues that affect print quality, and report conditions that may be a problem for some print processes. 

Preflight statuses reported include:

1.     Information only — may be a problem in some conditions.

2.     Warning — may be a problem

3.     Error — should be reviewed

4.     Pass — within standards

It’s important to note that items marked as “Information only” will NOT display in the results if the condition does not exist in the file. If the condition is found, the item will be listed.

General

1.     Settings also reported: Fonts, Color, Page boxes, Inks, Images, 

Color Management: Off

Document

2.     High-resolution printing “not allowed” = Error

3.     Printing “not allowed” = Error

4.     Document is damaged and needs repair on open = Error

Page

5.     Page size is defined by the “Trim box”.

6.     Different page sizes are found = Warning

7.     Page boxes does not correspond to “Press Layout” = Info only

8.     Objects do not have enough bleed within the 0.10 Inch inside margins = Info only

9.     Check Bleed starting from “Trim box”

10.  Bleed outside the trim should be 0.125 inches.

11.  Page scaling factor is set = Info only

Color

12.  Ink coverage is higher than higher than 340% = Info only

a.     Ignores area’s smaller than 0.5 inches

b.     Check only inside the “trim box”

13.  RGB black or impure CMYK black is used = Info only

14.  Spot color “All” is used with the “Trim box”. = Info only

15.  RGB gray or impure CMYK gray is used = Info only

16.  Index color is used = Info only

17.  Spot color is used = Info only

18.  RGB color is used = Info only

19.  Spot color ends in a suffix that is not “C” = Info only

Transparency

20.  Graphic element is transparent = Info only

21.  Graphic element uses spot color and is transparent = Warning

22.  Graphic element is set to overprint and is transparent = Info only

Fonts

23.  Font is not embedded  = Error

a.     Ignore standard 14 fonts and ignore fonts outside the trim.

24.  Font contain missing glyphs or metrics = Error

Text

25.  Black text (<14pts) does not overprint = Info only

26.  Text is smaller than 5pts = Info only

27.  Text is color and smaller than 5pts = Info only

28.  White text does not knockout = Warning

Line Art

29.  Line weight is smaller than 0.00194in (0.139 Pts) = Warning

Images

30.  Color or grayscale images are below 250ppi = Info Only

31.  Color or grayscale images are below 200ppi = Warning

32.  Color or grayscale images are below 100ppi = Error

33.  Images not scaled proportionally= Info only
